For once, I think Fifa got it right. Today they announced the final three nominees for the 2007 World Player of the Year and they couldn’t have been more accurate with their choices. The three remaining contenders for this year’s FIFA World Player title are Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United and Portugal), Kaka (AC Milan and Brazil) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona and Argentina).

Delhi is Maddening

If Goa is heaven in India, then Delhi is almost certainly hell. Delhi is maddening in all ways that a city can possibly be. Delhi will sharpen your wits and numb your senses. Delhi will come at you in full force from all directions at all times of the day and from all walks of life. Delhi will make you long for the “slow paced” life of New York City because compared to Delhi, everywhere is slow paced. Delhi will make you scream and yell and start to act in ways you would never dream toward other people and wandering animals. Delhi is the trip of all trips and you can get sky high from your own sensory overload.

Hang Gliding Over Rio

November 29th, 2007 | Username By Lee | Comments 2 Comments »

Some cities appeal to some people. Some cities appeal to other people. Rio de Janeiro appeals to everyone. How could anyone not love its breathtaking beauty? From the natural wonder of Rio’s harbor to the mountain top paradise of Sugarloaf, Rio has got it all. It has world-class partying all-year-round, especially during Carnival, and two of the most famous beaches in the world to match, Ipanema and Copacabana. And as if God himself was looking over the city, the Christ the Redeemer statue looms over Rio, embracing its beautiful people.

Post War Sarajevo

If you’re a twenty-something man from Sarajevo lucky enough to still be alive, you would have lived through a transfer of power from a beloved post World War II regime to a brutal Unitarian Serb nationalist madman. You would have lived through Yugoslavia’s greatest moment of triumph, the 1984 Winter Olympics. You would have lived through Europe’s first genocide since the Nazi Holocaust. You would have lived through the secession of Slovenia and Croatia from the Yugoslavian Federation and the ensuing brutal siege that occupied Sarajevo from 1992 to 1996. You would have lived through the massacre of thousands of Bosnians, Serbs and Croats on the rural lands and city streets of your people. You would have seen friends, family members and colleagues fighting for their lives against an unclear enemy and you would have survived to tell about it. But you wouldn’t want to.

The Hypocrisy of College Football

Before I rant about college football and the BCS I wanted to mention the passing of Sean Taylor early this morning. He was a member of the 2001 Miami Hurricanes National Championship team and along with Ed Reed was the best hitting safety I ever saw in college football. He also on the biggest stage, intercepted two passes in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl Championship game (pictured above), which I was at, nearly winning the Canes another championship. After some very hard times on and off the field he was starting to come into his own with the Washington Redskins and was a pro bowl selection last year. As a die hard Miami Hurricanes fan, a sports fan and a caring person, it is a very sad day.
