What’s Your Favorite?

On a daily basis, when I meet new people and they find out about my extensive travel, I’m almost always asked, “What’s your favorite place?” That is perhaps the most difficult question to answer because I love so many places. The other thing is I have favorite places for certain things, ie beaches, food, activities, cities, scenery, etc. It seems as if people are looking for me to say some crazy exotic place that most people haven’t heard of. It’s true that I have some favorites that most people haven’t heard of especially Fernando de Noronha off the northeast coast of Brazil. However, as difficult as it is to pick one overall favorite that ecompasses everything, it seems to be the basics and all the comforts of home that keeps bringing me back to Australia.

Australia is the one place in the world besides the United States that I have been that I could honestly say that I could live there for the rest of my life and be happy. Not to act like an Aussie Tourism Board liaison but they have it all. They have some of the best cities in the world in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth plus some of the greatest beaches and surfing on Earth up and down the east coast. The Outback is a throwback to another time and the people of Oz make the place as amazing as it is.

Australia is a captivating place and it is roughly the size of the United States but with about 10% of the people whick leads to less traffic, pollution, crime and just an overall better quality of life. Oz stays with you when you’re not there. When you meet Aussies traveling around the world you automatically like them right away just because they are from Australia. That seems to be a pretty universally accepted notion as well. You can’t say that about any other nationality.

I’m not sure when I will make it back to Australia but I know it will be soon and I cannot wait. The country itself is like an old friend and I know it will be welcoming whenever I decide the head back down under. If you are looking for a place to check out, head to Oz-the long flight isn’t that bad…spend a month-it’s worth it.
