Iguassu Falls
/>
For me, going to Iguassu Falls was the culmination of a three continent trip (not consecutively) to compare the three great waterfalls of the world: Iguassu, Victoria and Niagara. After seeing all three I have to say that Iguassu blows the other two away.
I saw Niagara first and thought it was nice. It was perfectly shaped, wide and easy viewable. The view was clearly better from the Canadian side than the US side but the town around the falls took away from the experience to me. It was very tacky and touristy to the extreme.
When I saw Victoria Falls I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. I still think it is pretty amazing. You have to take into account the location of the falls and the surrounding area. It is so cool aside from just the amazing Zambezi River. The Falls are high and loud and beautiful but the views from both sides are obscured because of the mist. You do get amazing rainbows but the actual landscape that the falls are in leads the mist to fog up the views. The views are more panaramic from the Zimbabwe side but closer from the Zambian side. I preferred the Zimbabwe side.
Iguassu was so powerful and comprehensive. The layout of the falls was amazing. You can spend the entire day or even two seeing both sides. The Brazil side gets you deep down into the falls with great views as you see in the above picture. The Argentinian side gets you up close views of all the falls, not only of the "garganta del diablo" (the devils throat)-the main falls. I have to say that Iguassu was breathtaking from both sides but I preferred the Argentinian side by a nose because of how close you could get to all of the falls. I also have to say that the tourist layout of the paths along the falls were great and very well organized, much better than Victoria Falls. You also never felt threatened or in danger as we knew a girl that got mugged at Victoria Falls.
