Race to the Rock

This morning and afternoon I took part in a public relations event for a new phone from Nokia. The phone is the N95 and the event was arranged as a battle between extreme travelers from all over using the revolutionary GPS system on the new phone to do certain tasks like in the Amazing Race. The end of the race was at Rockefeller Center in New York City. It was a really fun experience and I look forward to the follow up media event on Wednesday evening to discuss the event, the phone and more importantly my website and travel adventures.

It was a really exciting event and something that I had never taken in part of before. It was very strange because as I raced around Manhattan, I had a film crew following me. Literally, there was a cameraman, a sound guy, a photographer and Drew from the PR firm, Ketchum, that put this together. We kept stopping and doing multiple takes of things and it drew big crowds of people wondering what was going on. I couldn’t help but laugh as everyone was asking each other who that guy was and is he famous and whatnot.

We eventually made our three stops around town and even stopped for a pizza lunch in Little Italy. It was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see the tape and get some pictures. I am really excited about Wednesday night as there will be a lot of travel media there and possible sponsorship opportunities. We’ll see what happens with that but I had a blast today and I have a new appreciation for all those who film TV, movies, etc. in Manhattan-it is really tough to focus when everyone is staring and crowding around you but it sure is fun.
