Top 5 Cold Weather Getaways

Are you starting to get that itch for cold weather? Are you tiring of the dog days of August? Are you dreaming of that skiing or mountain getaway this winter? While I fully admit that I don’t love the cold and I love summer, I do hanker for the sight of snow covered mountains in exotic locations around the world. It’s never too early to plan that cold weather getaway and here are my top 5 cold weather getaways. Get some friends and family together and start planning!

Alberta, Canada
I could go on forever about how amazing Alberta is. Western Canada is so close but sometimes we forget how amazing it can be. Alberta is the best province in Canada and has some of the best cold weather destinations on Earth in both Banff National Park and Jasper; two of favorite all time places. Alberta also has some great winter sports to take part in from Calgary to Edmonton and everywhere in between. Check out this tour from Kensington Tours!
Athabasca Glacier, Banff, Alberta
Greenland
Greenland is one of those places that you never forget after you’ve visited. My visit was all too short and I cannot wait to go back soon. That said, you should not let this gem of unspoiled grandeur go to waste. Get out there and visit it, you won’t regret it. Check out this tour from Kensington Tours!
Greenland, iceberg
Norway
I love Norway! It has some of the best hiking and scenery in the world. Preikestolen and Kjeragbolten are two of my favorites anywhere on Earth! It is great to visit anytime of year whether you’re searching for the Northern Lights, some remote islands, fjords, or some world class skiing. The important thing is you go there as soon as possible. Check out these tour options from Kensington Tours.
Kjerag, Kjeragbolten, Norway
Switzerland
You don’t have to be neutral to love Switzerland. It’s one of the world’s most beautiful countries and full of life at all times of the year. Skiing is tough to beat in Switzerland but the cities are some of the best and most charming in all of Europe. St. Moritz is one of my favorite towns in the Alps and of course a two time Winter Olympics host. The playground for the rich and famous is within reach though. New Zealand
New Zealand
Wanna get away? You can’t get much further away than New Zealand! While New Zealand is making a killing off their Middle Earth marketing, it is still one of the most spectacular places on the planet. The South Island is especially amazing in the winter time and well worth a visit. Do death-defying stunts and see amazing glaciers, mirror lakes and massive snow covered peaks. See what New Zealand is all about. Check out these tours from Kensington Tours!
Swiss Alps, St. Moritz

  1. And it’s mushroom season in Norway now. Hike around in gorgeous scenery, and take home some dried mushrooms. It’s a record year for porcini.
