Road Trip from San Francisco to Sonoma

I was recently out in the San Francisco bay area for a weekend to film a commercial for TripIt in the city. I went out a few days early to hang out with my Godson and best friend and spend a little time in San Francisco-a city that I’ve been to 30+ times but can honestly say that I’ve never really loved it.

But I absolutely love the rest of Northern California and the bay area. In fact, I think the bay area, along with Southern California, are the two best places to live in America. However, one thing I did love about San Francisco was the Scarlet Huntington Hotel-another would be the burritos!

The Scarlet Huntington Hotel is part of Preferred Hotels and one of their properties that was recently redone. In fact, I stayed there a few years ago and liked it but this time I loved it. Aside from having a great suite, the views and neighborhood couldn’t be beat!

But I’ll be honest, I was most excited for a little road trip from San Francisco to Sonoma. I had previously been to Napa a handful of times and loved it of course-who wouldn’t?! But I had never gone out to Sonoma before. I was lured in by the beautiful Farmhouse Inn property and it’s amazing proximity to so many amazing vineyards.

When I was approached about doing a road trip from San Francisco to Sonoma, it wasn’t a hard sell especially with the amazing properties. The Farmhouse Inn even has a Michelin Star restaurant on property called Farmhouse Inn Restaurant. Although it was highly overpriced and the portions were small, it was excellent. It also doubled as the breakfast restaurant-which was amazing and had large portions!

When you stay at Farmhouse Inn, it’s kind of like a free ticket to all the best wineries as they are all partners. So I didn’t have to pay for any of the tastings; which is always nice. Tastings can range from $10-$40 generally depending what type of wines you’re tasting. My personal favorite was Lambert Bridge vineyard.

Aside from having tremendous wine, they also had the most beautiful property much like Domaine Carneros in Napa. I was a big fan but the thing I loved most was simply driving around Sonoma. It is really out of a movie. Actually, I think they’ve made several movies out there!

The road trip from San Francisco to Sonoma may not be the PCH down to Los Angeles but it’s easy, quick, you get to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge and it’s absolutely stunning. Check it out next time you’re out west!

  8. What an amazing road! I really want to go there now. Thank you for inspiring me. Maybe it’s time again to explore USA 🙂

  9. Next time you are in Sonoma you should try Scribe Winery. You sit outside in an idilic setting overlooking the vineyard while snacks and wine are delivered to your table. They are known for their fantastic Rose. The feel of the winery alone is worth a visit. Cheers!

  10. The Farm House Inn is a fabulous place to stay. Their restaurant has great food, like you say. You can often find discounted offers to stay here on Groupon or Travelzoo. Always check these discount sites before booking. I’ve always found the staff to be friendly and extremely helpful. Be sure to ask at the desk for wine tasting passes. If you have certain wineries in mind for visiting, they will do their best to give you complimentary or 2 for 1 wine tasting coupons.
