Hi guys, this is a special Algeria group trip that I’ll be leading. The trip which begins in the bustling capital of Algiers before heading south the central Algerian desert, exploring oasis towns, vast dines and nomadic communities. We then continue to the coastal city of Oran and the dramatic ravine town of Constantine, along with the Roman sites at Djemila. I can’t wait!

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Saturday, 26 September

Algiers
Arrive in Algiers.
Transfer to Hotel.
Free time in the city and tour briefing.
Overnight in Algiers at hotel.

Day 2 Sunday, 27 September

Algiers – Ghardaia
A full day walking tour in Algiers including the labyrinthine Kasbah and a chance to see some of the colonial buildings of Algiers.
In the evening we transfer to airport and fly to Ghardaia.
Overnight in Ghardaia at hotel.

Day 3 Monday, 28 September

Ghardaia
Full day trip of Ghardaia and the M’Zab valley.
Overnight in Ghardaia at hotel.

Day 4 Tuesday, 29 September

Ghardaia – Sebseb – Oran
We continue to explore the Ghardaia province, and head to the desert of Sebseb.
In the afternoon we transfer to the airport and fly to Oran.
Overnight in Oran at hotel.

Day 5 Wednesday, 30 September

Oran – Constantine
Full day walking tour in Oran.
Highlights will include sights such as Fort Santa Cruz and La Blanca.
In the evening we transfer to the airport and fly to Constantine.
Overnight in Constantine at hotel.

Day 6 Thursday, 1 October

Constantine
A full day walking tour of Constantine, a city set on a high plateau split by a dramatic ravine serviced by 7 bridges. The city offers myriad of spectacular views as well as its own history.
Overnight in Constantine at hotel.

Day 7 Friday, 2 October

Constantine – Djemila Ruins – Algiers
Today we visit the spectacular roman ruins of Djemila, a city well adapted to its mountainous setting. This is one of the greatest sets of roman remains in North Africa.
We then drive back to Algiers.
Overnight in Algiers at hotel.

Day 8 Saturday, 3 October

Algiers – End
Transfer to airport.
End of trip.

General Information

Flights:
We do not directly arrange international flights to Algeria. We can suggest routes and operators.
Visas:
We will issue visa authorisation documents to guests ahead of travel so that they will be able to obtain visas from their local consulate/embassy.
Please contact us about which embassy you will apply at as processing times and procedures vary greatly.
Food:
Breakfast is included throughout the trip. Other meals are to be paid for by guests.
Accommodation:
We do not and cannot offer a uniform accommodation standard on our itineraries. Even if we wanted to, the reality is that standards and costs vary across the region. We consider comfort, location, design, character, security, historical interest and whether the money we spend will go into the pockets of the local community when we make our choices of where to stay.
On this trip we will be staying in 4* local hotels in the north and simple hotels when you’re in the desert areas.
The trip is based on two people sharing. An optional single supplement is available upon request.
Transport:
When we choose our vehicles and drivers we take into consideration the road conditions, the length of journey and the competence of the man behind the wheel. Your comfort, enjoyment and safety of the journey is of top priority.
Guides:
You will be accompanied by local Algerian English-speaking guides throughout the trip.
The local guides may vary in between regions.
Insurance:
A valid travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any Untamed Borders trips.
Security:
Security escorts may be required in some areas of southern Algeria. We must state that the local team have the final word with regards to changes in the itinerary for safety reasons.
