My Day in Korcula, Croatia

One of the main reasons I was excited to go on my latest cruise with Azamara Club Cruises was that it stopped in several destinations I hadn’t been to. Korcula, Croatia was one of those destinations. I admittedly knew nothing about Korcula (Pronounced Corch-yooluh); not even that it was the birthplace of Marco Polo-a man Arthur Frommer once compared me to! So here is what I did with my day in Korcula, Croatia.

My Day in Korcula, Croatia

A day in Korcula, Croatia is plenty of time t see and do pretty much everything. There isn’t a ton to see or do but what they have is fantastic. The main draw is the scenery and setting without a doubt.

Old Town Korcula, where you will tender into from the cruise ship is gorgeous. It is akin to Dubrovnik but much smaller and more manageable with almost no tourists. Strolling around the old town is a pleasure and after a few minutes you’ll be completely orientated.

You can actually walk the perimeter of the old town in about 12 minutes. This gives stunning views of the surrounding bay and across to the mountains. The scenery and setting as I mentioned are fabulous and very picture worthy.

The old town itself is very nice and reminiscent of many others in the area like in Hvar, Zadar or Kotor. There are a few museums, which are whatever in my opinion. The cathedral is nice enough but won’t blow you away and the alleyways are what you’d expect. Like I said you go to Korcula for the scenery and setting.

The best way I found to get a great view of the old town and the accompanying scenery is to climb up to the viewpoint that gives you amazing views of it all. You can climb basically straight up for about 25 minutes or you can ask a taxi to take you up. It only would take 10 minutes by car or so. It’s well worth it.

When you get back to town, choose one of the many competing restaurants along the waterfront. I didn’t take note of the name of the place I ate at but it was very good. I had the Istrian pasta that was fantastic. They all pretty much sell the same stuff so you really can’t go wrong-choose the one with the view that suits you best.

So that was basically my day in Korcula, Croatia. It’s a great little place with not a lot to it. What you see is what you get! Enjoy it and tell my boy Marco I said hi!
